Bring Your Pet to the River
The Russian River area is dog-friendly with its lodging and parks. There are many
vacation rentals, resorts, B&Bs and inns that allow pets. For all the parks
the rule is going to be "6 foot leashes". Some coastal beaches don't
allow dogs at all. There is a list of several where dogs are welcome in the parks
section below. The best bet for letting your dog run free is to rent a vacation
home with a large yard (fenced or not depending on what you need).
Park Rules
State Parks. Dogs are permitted, on leash, in most state parks. The general rule
is they are allowed on roads and open areas but not on trails or in buildings.
Dogs are generally not allowed on state beaches. The exceptions along the Sonoma
Coast are as follows (leash law in affect): Marshall Gulch, Schoolhouse Beach,
Portuguese Beach, Duncan’s Cove, Wright’s Beach, Shell Beach, Blind
Beach. For beach locations visit russianrivertravel.com/parks
Regional Parks. Leashed dogs are allowed at all regional parks.
Villa Chanticleer Dog Park. Villa Chanticleer is a 1.5 acre dog park located off
of Powell in Healsburg. The area is fenced in and dogs are allowed off-leash.
Dog Walks
Armstrong Redwoods. Park at the entrance to the redwood grove and walk your dog
in. This is a popular desitnation for people taking their pets out for a stroll.
Dogs are not allowed on the trails (reserved for horses) but the one lane road
is sparsely traveled and hardly distinguishable from a large pathed path.
Activities
Most of the canoe & kayak rental companies allow dogs to come along.
